I have finished this book and found it over indulgent and not really all that interesting. I felt she missed the boat on many occassions. I know little about the author but this read like a clumsy first book to me. I could have done without the sex stuff, it added nothing and seemed creepy. I did not love any of the characters but felt like I really wanted to. It left me unsatisfied and not in a good way. (**)

French Skin?

In the US we always hear about the beauty of French skin, how gorgeous, supple and unlined. If you want to sell a skin care product just tout it as French. I always thought that may be a load of hooey or a clever marketing ploy like French Women Don't Get Fat when we all know that certainly there are fat French women.

Then I began to watch the broadcasts over at Frog with a Blog and whaddaya know, it seems to be true. As an aesthetician I always notice a person's skin and then of course their eyebrows. FWaB has gorgeous skin and so do Katia and Kyliemac and I had already noticed petite and le Meg so I have to wonder, is this genetic coincidence or is it true? Does living in France give you beautiful skin? Is it the atmosphere? The clean living? wait, that can't be it ::snicker::

Hi, I am new to your blog and found the link on Sam's site. Can I ask why your blog is called Jules in France when you are in Texas?
BTW: People in France complain about dry and irritated skin all the time because of all the calcaire in the water. Maybe they got famous for their beauty products because moisturizing creams are a necessity there.

Hi Anna, nice to meet you. This post http://julesinfrance.typepad.com/jules_in_france/2007/05/why_jules_is_no.html explains the title of my blog.
Another reason that may not be mentioned there is that I was about to move to Paris in the spring of this year when I had health issues stop me.
I had a blog on Blogger before that where I talked about French class and finding a flat, getting ready to move to Paris. When I switched over to Typepad I only copied a few of those posts so most of that is lost now.

I did actually see that post after asking the question! Sorry! Good luck in getting to France! Life IS beautiful there (though also frustrating....but hey, it can also be even more frustrating in the US often times too!)

One thing I really notice here is that there are a LOT of reallly OLD people.. they seem to have longeity here.. but NOT smooth skin.. at least NOT the smokers... I notice a ton of wrinkley people here all day long! Those people you mentioned as having nice skin... live in France but I don't think the "grew up" in France... So wherever they lived before France seems to have done a heap of good- Australia and GB, perhaps... There are soooo many pollutants in the air.. but people DO eat fresh food and good quality food.. which helps!1
