I am barely into this and savoring each page.

    Elizabeth Gilbert: Eat, Pray, Love
I have finished this book and found it over indulgent and not really all that interesting. I felt she missed the boat on many occassions. I know little about the author but this read like a clumsy first book to me. I could have done without the sex stuff, it added nothing and seemed creepy. I did not love any of the characters but felt like I really wanted to. It left me unsatisfied and not in a good way. (**)

Inconvenient Truth

Inconvenient Over on Sam's blog she asked a Question. I try really hard to stay out of political discussions where I might piss people off because I am a rabid Democrat Liberal. I sit so far on the left that my chair is out on the lawn. However...

I had to drive to Big D this afternoon to take care of some business. (never try to take 121 when there is a race at Texas Motor Speedway) I had lunch at Razoos ::drool:: with my daughter. While she was chatting with our yumaliscious (yes it is a word) waiter I took a phone call from the vet. My Ems was there getting her ducks in a row for our trip across the pond next month.

The nurse was telling me all that was done, all that needed to be done and what the cost would be. $14.95 and that was for her new toothbrush and paste and some ear wash. Everything else was covered under her insurance plan. I hung up extremely pleased and said to my daughter, oh this is fabulous, everything Emma needed today was covered.

Then I just stopped and sat there. My daughter said what is wrong with you? It suddenly occured to me that my dog, My. Dog. Has an insurance plan and I do not. My Dog qualifies for a group insurance plan that offers affordable health care ($19.95 a month) and I do not.

I do belong to Care Now and that gives me a very nice discount on drugs and my office visits are cheaper although I only use them for flu and sick visits but if I had a serious illness I would be seriously screwed.

Now I know this post is supposed to be about the environment but as long as I am pissed off at the Republicans I might as well go with it. Yeah I know the healthcare crisis is not completely their fault but I live in Texas and we still suffer from Dumbya's healthcare reform at the state level.

Now about the environment. In the area where I live people are much more careful. The recycle bins are used, the city has mandatory recycling of trash and garbage, people dump the newspapers in the newspaper bins and I see a lot more people using their own bags at the market. There are waiting lists for Hybrids and the trains are usually pretty well full with commuters. There is still a lot of waste and not everyone does what they should but I bet more people are trying to be "green" than were 5 years ago.
